Arguments FOR

-
The major parties may no longer force unsuitable candidates upon the electorate.

-
The major parties must be more responsive to the qualities and qualifications Americans demand of their leaders.

-
This should encourage more of America's best and brightest to seek elected office.

Arguments AGAINST

-
This might result in key offices being vacant for extended periods.

-
Campaigning is very expensive. Having to fund multiple campaigns may be prohibitive and good candidates might be overlooked.

-
Administering an election is also expensive. This puts an extra burden on taxpayers.
